What is a poll list?

The term Poll List refers to an official list of electors or voters used at a polling place or election process to verify eligibility and record that a voter has been issued a ballot. It gives election, security, legal, or technical readers a specific label for the concept rather than a broader everyday meaning.

How is a poll list used at a polling place?

In election administration, Poll List is applied according to its defined purpose: an official list of electors or voters used at a polling place or election process to verify eligibility and record that a voter has been issued a ballot. Officials then use the relevant eligibility, filing, ballot, timing, notice, or procedural rules for that election.

Is a poll list the same as a voter-registration list?

Not exactly. A voter-registration list is the broader official record of registered voters, while a poll list is typically the operational list used for a particular polling place or election to check eligibility and record ballot issuance. Jurisdictions may generate the poll list from the registration system and use different local names for it.
