TLS refers to another cryptographic protocol designed for the purpose of providing security and confidentiality of information transmitted over the Internet. It was based on SSL, which it is meant to replace. The objectives of the TLS protocol are to allow client/server applications to communicate in a way that prevents eavesdropping, tampering, or message forgery, and election jurisdicitons may use it in an effort to protect the privacy and security of Internet-based communications with voters.
